Eugene Curtiss

Rev. Dr. Eugene E. Curtiss, age 88, formerly of Hastings, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 with his son by his side, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City, Michigan. The son of Earl John & Emma Grace (Hamblin) Curtiss, he was born on April 12, 1934 in Hastings, Michigan. Eugene earned his doctorate of chiropractic degree from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and operated practices in Hastings, as a partner at Burkhart Chiropractic in Caledonia, with his last practice in Grand Rapids. He also earned degrees from Olivet Nazarene University and Westen Michigan University which allowed him to teach in Hastings Public Schools and also served in ministry as a pastor. Eugene loved attending Restoration Christian Reformed Church in Middleville, Michigan. He loved to teach in churches and schools, and was a talented musician. Eugene could play the piano not just by notes but by his ear sounds. Dad loved to play for anyone that wanted to hear him play. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two wives, Lucy Curtiss and Renzella Curtiss. Surviving are his brothers Joel Curtiss of Petoskey, Michigan and Lawrence Curtiss of Bedford, Massachusetts; two sons, Darwin Curtiss of Lake Ann, Michigan, and Ben & Nancy Curtiss of Clinton Township, Michigan; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; his step-children, Dick Herron, Tim & Linda Herron, Lori & Tim Helmus, Norman Herron, and Brian Herron, and their families; and and several nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Restoration Christian Reformed Church, 708 W. Main Street, Middleville, Michigan. Instead of flowers, Dr. Curtiss would have appreciated contributions in his memory to Restoration Christian Reformed Church of Middleville, Michigan or to Munson Healthcare Hospice of Traverse City, Michigan. Honoring his wishes, burial took place privately at Coman Cemetery in Yankee Springs Township, Michigan.
