Eugene Wade Carnes Jr., 71 years old, went into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, October 26th, 2019, at 8:00 P.M., at Spectrum Blodgett Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Eugene "Gene" was born to Anna Mae Hendrie/Clum and Eugene Wade Carnes Sr. on January 26th, 1948. He grew up in Marne, Michigan and attended Coopersville High School. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and all around sportsmen. Gene enjoyed growing his large garden and living off the land from all that God provided to feed his family. He loved watching basketball and football with family and friends; his favorite team was the Detroit Lions, and he has been trying to stay alive until they go to the Super Bowl! But that means, we would all be waiting!! He worked at the Rockford Paper Mill for 21 years and made many life long friendships there. He then went to work for Roth Trucking, where he worked for many years. Gene had a very strong work ethic and passed that along to his children. He is survived by his children, Jenni Mae (Rick) Martinsen, Timothy Gene (Trudy) Carnes, and Cari Louise (Steven Thornton) Sharpe; step-son's, Sean Wallace (Myra) Fisher, Geoffery Martell Fisher, and Gregory Jason Fisher; siblings, Theodore Thomas Clum, Sandra Kay Clum-Bujaki, Billie Ann Clum (Pete Turley), Valorie (Steve) Young, Doris Caroline (Donald) Shumard , Larry Clifton (Mary) Carnes, John Mark Carnes, Michael Jay Carnes, and Lois Lorraine (Marty) Cooper; favorite aunt, Lois Lorraine Carnes/Blakeley; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends including his best friend, Tim Fiebig; caretaker and friend, Cal Holck, and special friends, Al Eberlein and Eric and Mary Villerius. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leslie Ann Carnes; mother, Anna Mae Clum; step-father, Theodore Clum; father, Eugene Wade Carnes Sr.; step-mother, Fernanda Rosa Carnes; brothers, Michael Barry Clum, Eugene Wayne Carnes, Richard Clay Carnes, and Robert Lee Carnes. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Rockford Community Cabin 220 Monroe St., Rockford, MI. 49341. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Detroit Lions Super Bowl fund! Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
