Emma May Nastaj, age 80, of Trufant, unexpectedly passed away Thursday evening, December 8, 2011 at her home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Walter & Mildred (Warner) Johnson, she was born on May 17, 1931 in Trufant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 49 years, Sidney W. Nastaj, in 1997; and by a son, James Allen Nastaj in 2010.
Surviving are her children, Sally Nastaj of Trufant, Steven Nastaj of Rockford, John & Wendy Nastaj of Walker, and Kelly & Christine Nastaj of Kentwood; her grandchildren, Rebecca Berkenpas, Paul Berkenpas, Amanda Nastaj, Paige Nastaj, Jeremy Nastaj, Kaitlyn Sorensen, Dustin Nastaj, Mitchell Nastaj, Zachory Nastaj, and Lexie Nastaj; two great grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Josephine J. Sears, Arlene Blaesing, Robert Johnson, Geraldine & Darwin Smith, and Walter & Janet Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Emmas life from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Maple Valley Complex, 239 1st Street, Trufant, in a time of sharing memories, food, and fellowship. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place and private committal services will be held next summer at Trufant Cemetery.
