Obituary

Eleanor Gertrude Green (née Eurich) passed away in Greenville, Michigan on Friday, April 17, 2026, surrounded by her family and members of her long-time care team. Eleanor was born April 19, 1931 in Greenville, to Leon Henry Eurich and Lillie Nina Eurich (née Rydahl).

Eleanor graduated from Greenville School in 1949. She graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Education. She earned a Master of Arts Degree in Reading. She taught kindergarten and elementary students in Alger, Greenville, Belding, Rockford, Atlanta and Wyoming. For nearly a decade, she taught Reading in Wyoming, Michigan. Students and parents loved her. Throughout her life, former students would seek her out to share the influence she had on their lives. She loved to tell stories about invitations to lunch or dinner at students’ homes and to their graduation parties to celebrate their educational achievements.

During her childhood, her parents taught her several key values: The importance of family and friends; kindness, love and compassion; generosity; and strength and independence. Those remained core for her throughout her life.  With Eleanor, family and friends always came first. She deeply loved her family: her parents and grandparents, her daughters Tanis (“Tanie”) and Nancy, and her many dear friends, most of whom she considered family. Her friendships were broad. Many were nurtured since elementary school or college years, while other friendships were cultivated through her involvement in the Thalia Club or with fellow teachers throughout her career. A few new friendships were developed over the last ten years of her life. She treasured all friendships.

Eleanor was a lifelong learner. She shared her passions with all who were interested. She enjoyed music (classical, jazz, big band, opera); history; art and reading. She also loved genealogy. In addition to researching her family history in libraries and on-line, she visited cemeteries from New York to Red Cloud, Nebraska.  She proudly curated her home with antique collections including hand-crafted armoires, built by her great grandfather, brought with the family from Denmark to Greenville in the early 1880s. She felt strong kinship with the Danish side of her family, supported the Danish Cultural Center in Greenville and developed long-time friendships with Danish cousins – those residing in the Greenville area, as well as those in Praesto, Denmark.

Eleanor traveled the world, visiting countries across Eastern and Western Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. While most travels were with her dear friends, David and Ellin Svoboda and Daughter Nancy and Son-in-Law, Bill Robinson, she was quick to join friends and relatives who were game for new adventures.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Tanis “Tanie” Green;  her brother and sister-in-law,  Stanley & Kay Eurich of Holland, Michigan;  and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Green, and her loving son-in-law, Bill Robinson, of Grand Rapids; nephews, Steve Eurich of Fennville; Jeff Eurich of West Olive; and Jeff’s son, Sean Eurich;  and many cousins.

Nancy and Bill would like to thank Eleanor’s care team, who made it possible for her to remain in her childhood home until just recently. She considered each of them dear friends. They include: Marie-Claire (“MC”) Camp, Lynette Drew, Angie Gillmer, Rose Lee, Ann Macdonald, Pam Mayberry, Bonnie Peasley and Anna Stewart.
