Edward Robert "Bob" Schott, age 84, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 31, 2011 at Spectrum Health- Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, MI with family at his side.
Born on October 7, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Bob lived his life on the West side of Grand Rapids into adulthood but many of the latter years in Wyoming.
Bob was a proud veteran of World War II... having served with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic- Pacific theatre as well as the Occupation Forces in Japan following V-J Day. He was a long-time employee of the Grand Rapids Brass, Reynolds Metal and the Masonic Temple. His hobbies included photography, travelling- especially cruises, and finding special treasures while on one of his adventurous daily walks.
Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Betty Schott; one son, Stephen C. Schott; two stepsons, Kevin Kooyers, and Kerry Kooyers; one stepdaughter, Karen Kooyers; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with many friends and neighbors.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, two sisters, one brother, and stepson, Keith Kooyers.
Bob will always be remembered for his heart-felt & warm smile, and playful personality.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011 from the chapel of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Avenue N.E., Grand Rapids, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Father Peter Vu will preside and military honors will be rendered by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. The family requests that any contributions be made to either the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Funeral Fund or the Parkinson Disease Foundation.
