Edna Marie Sharkey, age 79, formerly of Sheridan, passed away Tuesday morning, April 30, 2013 at The Laurels of Carson City. The daughter of Harold & Edna (Nichols) West, she was born on October 25, 1933 in Belding.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Edna always put the needs of her family before her own.
On May 15, 1958 she married Howard Sharkey and together they enjoyed 40 years of marriage until he preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold West; three sisters, Beatrice Reed, Mazie Hancock, and Marge Hammons; and a great granddaughter, Chloe Marie Gibbs.
Surviving are her children, Arlene & Richard Carlson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Russell Sharkey of Lansing, Debra Carpenter of Wilcox, Arizona, Bonnie & Danny Vaughn of Gowen, Galen & Evie Sharkey of Greenville; Deva Sharkey of Gowen, and Renee Sharkey of Sheridan; a brother, Floyd & Kathy West of Lakeview; a sister, Olive Harvey of Grand Rapids; a brother-in-law, Ken Cross of Greenville; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside committal services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 11, 2013 at Evergreen Township Cemetery, Sheridan, with Pastor Jamey Nichols of the Stanton First Congregational Church officiating. Honoring her wishes, cremation has taken place.
