Earl Johnson, Jr., age 70, formerly of Flint, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Grand Rapids Home of Veterans. The son of Earl and Ethel (Steele) Johnson, Sr., he was born on September 3, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from Central High, he served in the U.S. Army, and following his honorable discharge earned an Associate's of Business Degree from Mott Community College. Earl was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company and retired from the Wonder Bread division of Hostess Cakes. He enjoyed spending time with family and listening to the Blues. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Johnson; and a sister, Bernice Dotson. Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Sharice Tinsley, Sonya Johnson, Sacarra Johnson, and Shannon Johnson; eight grandchildren, Audrick Johnson, Nicholas Ballard, Bryndon Johnson, Austin Love, Najah Allen, Alysia Rawls, Aj'ia Rawls, and Kamau Tinsley Jr.; five nephews, Mandio Johnson, Ladarryl (Anna) Johnson, Milton Johnson, Darvin (Kenyetta) Dotson, and Darryl Dotson; brother-in-law, Lee Dotson; sister-in-law, Lonie (Leroy)Litszey; and a host of other relatives and friends including special cousin Lee Carl English. The family would like to express special thanks to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, staff, especially Elaine, Steve, Jody, Glenda (charge nurse) and Tim.
