Lucille Thompson, age 96, of Greenville, passed away Friday afternoon, January 21, 2022 at Golden Life - Roy Drive in Greenville. The daughter of Augustus & Amelia (Guest) Bertram, she was born on March 14, 1925 in Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where she was raised and graduated high school, having been a drum majorette in the marching band.
On April 9, 1945, in Sault Ste. Marie, she married Melvin James Thompson after he returned from serving in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Lucille and Melvin then made their home in Greenville where they raised four children and enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Melvin passed away on December 31, 2000. A devoted wife and mother, Lucille also assisted in the family business, Thompson Well Drilling, which Melvin had founded in 1965 and continues on today with the third and fourth generations of the family.
For nearly 75 years, Lucille attended the First Baptist Church in Greenville where she helped in the nursery. A talented baker, Lucille will long be remembered for her creative wedding and birthday cakes, as well as her fresh baked breads. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting, crocheting, fishing, and watching the deer, but delighted in time spent with her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Wayne Charles Miller on October 28, 2020; a sister, Yvonne Gray; and four brothers, Howard Bertram, Arnold Bertram, Robert Bertram, and Earl Bertram.
Surviving are her children, Bonnie Miller, Louella & Robert Hubble, James & Brenda Thompson, and Dan & Barb Thompson; a brother, Leonard Bertram; her grandchildren, Michael Miller, David & Jennifer Miller, Jon & Samantha Miller, Karen & Mark Middlekauff, Jennifer & Haseeb Ahmed, Jessica & Jose Campos, James & Kassandra Thompson, Marsha & Ron Cheney, Cathy Ackerson & Bruce Simmons, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Gary Miller, Tony Miller, Tiffany Miller, Felipe Miller, David Miller, Ethan Miller, Matthew Skinner, GraceAnne Skinner, Maverick Miller, Abigail Miller, Stephanie Heffron & Cameron Whitlow, Mellisa Cross, Kristen Cross, Jacob Cross, Victoria & Montana Crawford, Veronia Dennis, Veronica Dennis, Valentine Ackerson, Chance Ackerson, Elizabeth Dennis, Iain Ahmed, Ilan Ahmed, Illiana Ahmed, Ilyaas Ahmed, Kaitlyn Peveril, Mateo Campos, Lexi Thompson, Livia Thompson, Hazel Thompson, and Thea Thompson; great-great grandchildren, Tyson Bowen, Brealyn Bowen, Brantley Bowen, Lila Heffron, Indy Whitlow, Adelyse Dennis, Anahleigh Dennis, and Christian Dick; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 401 S. Franklin Street at the corner W. Washington Street (M-57), Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday. The Rev. Paul E. Dickson, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will take place in the spring at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
