It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dedicated, reliable, loving, and supportive man, Dwight "Tim" McMullen, who left us on April 6, 2024. Born on September 4, 1954, in Reed City, Michigan, Dwight was a beloved figure in the community, known for his warm heart and incredible talent in taxidermy. Throughout his lifetime, he brilliantly embodied the sentiment of the Irish poet, W.B. Yeats, who wrote, "Think where man's glory most begins and ends, and say my glory was I had such friends."
Dwight was a master of his craft, the proprietor of a successful taxidermy business. Over the years, his work was recognized multiple times by the Michigan Taxidermy Association, including a 1st place award in 2002 for "Best in Category: Deer Mounts" and the prestigious "McKenzie Taxidermy Supply Taxidermists Choice: Best Whitetail Award" in 2006. His extraordinary talent also earned him an "Award of Excellence in the Art of Whitetail Taxidermy" in 2011. Dwight had a particular fondness for deer, and this passion extended beyond his work into his hobbies of deer watching and hunting. His dedication and reliability were also evident in his service to the Moose Lodge in Reed City, where he held various offices.
Beyond his professional accolades and community service, Dwight was a family man through and through. His motto was "Family First," and he lived this out every day in his loving relationship with his wife, Carol McMullen, whom he married on August 20, 1988; his four children, Danielle (Charlie) Quinn, Timothy (Jennifer) McMullen, Nicky Hagen, and Bret (Brandy) McMullen; a step-son, Wade (Stephanie) Myers; his brother, Patrick McMullen; his wife's siblings, Marge Smith (Mike Kapellar), Marie (Tom) VanOrder, Jim (Kathy) Smith, Jerry (Marianne) Smith, Sue Smith, Marilyn Snider, Barb Kadwell, and Doug (Linda) Smith; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Dwight was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Joyce McMullen, his siblings, Cherril (Dick) Allen, Susie Crissenbury, and Ronnie Whitman; and a sister-in-law, Joyce (Jim) Raveau, and a brother-in-law, Melvin. As George Eliot once wrote, "Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them," and for Dwight, this rings true. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
We encourage those who knew Dwight to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. These collective memories will serve as a wonderful tribute to Dwight's life and a source of comfort to his family.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville, Michigan, 616-754-5638.
