Duane L. Muns, age 90, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at his home. The son of Fred C. & Anna (Nietzel) Muns, he was born on April 12, 1930 in Montcalm Township. After graduating high school, Duane proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He later attended Michigan Agricultural College.
On March 31, 1951, in Stanton, he married Diane K. Reese and together they raised six children and enjoyed 65 years of marriage until Diane passed away on September 23, 2016. For 37 years Duane worked in the tool room at Federal Mogul in Greenville. Another passion of Duane's was working on his family farm and in retirement he and Diane happily left the cold of "The Mitten" to winter in Apache Junction, Arizona for 19 years.
They had been members of the Turk Lake United Methodist Church since 1953, where Duane served for many decades as the church organist. He enjoyed farming, fishing, cutting wood, golfing and playing baseball. Even in his 80's Duane was still playing league softball! Duane was active in 4-H, was a scout leader and tried not to miss any of his children's many activities.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Hilbert Muns; his parents; his wife, Diane Muns; a sister and brother-in-law Lenore & Bob Schenden; and two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Lorraine Reese and Lorraine Helena Reese. Surviving are his children, Joe & Sue Muns of Sidney, John & Deb Muns of Greenville, Fred Muns of Hubbardston, Sandy & Jim Gardner of Greenville, Chuck & Ana Muns of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and Kathy & Kevin Doorn of Greenville; grandchildren, Tracie & Richard Church, Ariana Gonzalez, Scott & Amy Hall, Mike & BreAnn Muns, Johana Lazo, Alicia Gardner & Karen Michael, Emily & Dan Wilhelm, Will Muns, Nick Muns, Ben Gardner, and Leslie & Jake Sejat; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, John L. & Jan Reese of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Thomas H. Reese of Stanton; and many nieces and nephews. There were also many others that called him "Dad" and were welcomed into the family.
Private family services will be held and burial will take place at East Montcalm Cemetery. Instead of flowers, Duane would have appreciated contributions in his memory to the Turk Lake United Methodist Church.
