Douglas Myers

July 1, 1946 — January 7, 2024

Douglas Wayne Myers was a true original. Born on July 1, 1946, Doug was charismatic and creative from the start. A smart and insightful nonconformist, he spent much of his life in Sturgis, Michigan and the Chicagoland area. He was a talented musician and an avid fisherman who loved dancing, gardening, cooking, reading, watching films, and spending time outdoors. He was an active learner with a wildly large vocabulary and a knack for crosswords, always driven by curiosity and the desire to understand the world around him. His presence in a room couldn't go unnoticed. He was dedicated to the local AA community, and he pursued compassionate and genuine interactions with people in everything he did. Even when he himself was struggling, he tried his best to love and support those around him and always live by the mantra, “Feed the good wolf.” Doug is survived by his daughters Sarah and Laura, his son Philip, his stepson Patrick, two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, his mother Gretchen, and several other extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne Myers. Doug made a deep mark on the lives of all who knew him. We honor the life of an authentic, complex, sincere man who was truly one of a kind. He was a free spirit in a world that often demands conformity, reminding us all to stay true to ourselves and our own paths.
