Mrs. Dorothy Lucille Forton, age 85, of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 26, 2008 at her daughters home in Gowen. Born on Feb. 5, 1923, in Greenville, she was one of eight children born to Bert & Lavina Bauman.
While raising her family Dorothy had many jobs, including a donut maker at the Meijer quansethut store, a cook at the old Northside Inn, and later worked at Federal-Mogul from 1959 until retiring in 1985 as a line inspector. A long time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lester J. Sitts VFW Post 5065 in Sheridan, she enjoyed reading and playing bingo, and was an excellent cook and baker. Above all, she delighted in spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, John Paul LaPar in 1950; her second husband, John D. Forton in 1981; a sister, Irene Varney; three brothers, Stan, Dan, and Earl Bauman; and a great grandson, Charles W. Kennedy.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Janice & Charles Hanna of Gowen; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gaylord LaPar of East Lansing, Duane & Shirley LaPar of Monument, Colorado, and John & Debbie LaPar of Coral; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet & Don Walston of Thompsonville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob & Arlene Bauman of Clare, and Tom & Arlene Bauman of Greenville, and; a special life-long friend, Mae Phillips of Saranac; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
The family invites relatives and friends to join them in food, fellowship, and memories from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at Dorothys home, 316 N. Olsen Street, Greenville.
Honoring her wishes, private family committal services will be held at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Instead of flowers, Dorothy would have appreciated contributions in her memory to the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065.
