Doreen Jean Bennett, age 91, of Belding, passed away in the presence of family at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after a long life's journey ending with a stroke. She was called home to her Heavenly home at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021.
The daughter of Chester A. & Edna A. (Krepps) White, she was born in Kalkaska on August 17, 1930. On April 23, 1949, in Belding, she married Robert C. Bennett, Sr. Doreen was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She loved the water, traveling, and loved dogs -- both hers and those of her family, and had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Greenville for many years when she was able. She also worked outside the home at the former Ore-Ida Foods plant in Greenville, retiring in 1986. She and Bob then made their home in Florida, returning to Michigan in the summer to spend time with family, eventually moving back to Belding after her husband's death in 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, James Hittle; a brother, Gary R. White; a sister-in-law, Sally White; a son, Robert C. Bennett, Jr.; and two sons-in-law, Martin Russell and Donald Schultz.
Surviving are a son, Ronald & Carmen Bennett of Gowen; three daughters, Susan & Mike Seif of Belding, Debbie Schultz of Gowen, and Patty & Gordon Ridgeway of Trufant; her grandchildren, Rhonda Clevenger, Becky & Tony Caterino, Robin & Erick Alberts, Rachel & Ben Richwine, Jason Seif, Heather & Matt Bush, Fred Russell, Marty & Chancey Russell, Alisha Russell, James Russell, Kristen & Eric Sternhagen, Bobby & Nawal Bennett, Sherri & Doug Engler, Terri Gorby, Ryan & Destiny Gorby, TJ Lawens, Samantha Aneglini, Kyler Ridgeway, and Jacob Ridgeway; great-grandchildren, Ronnie Clevenger, Mitchell Clevenger, Alex Richwine, Parker Richwine, Leah Richwine, Ashley Rowland, Jordan Bennett, Dillon & Faith Deal, Simone Bush, Emersyn Bush, Henrik Bush, Jaxon Seif, Ethan Seif, Tyler & Abigail Caterino, Elizabeth Caterino, Jenna Caterino, Mya Sternhagen, Landon Sternhagen, Zachary Lawens, Ethan Mock, Devylin Lawens, Lexi Engler, Lauryn Engler, Sam Jasso, Braxon Gorby, Preston Gorby, Jimmy Russell, Murvey Russell, Autumn Cason, Freddy Russell, Noah Russell, Robert Russell, Christian Russell, Alen Russell, Logan Russell, and Averi Russell; andgreat-great grandchildren, Shaylee Bennett, Matteo Capizzi, Sergio Capizzi, Joclyn Bennett, Edan Deal, Amethyst Lawens and Kinsleigh Clevenger.
Visitation with the family is from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, 12501 Montcalm Road, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021. The Rev. R. Mark Shaw, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate and a luncheon will follow the ceremony. Burial will take place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens in Belding.
Instead of flowers, Doreen would have appreciated contributions in her memory to either the animal shelter or to the Missions Fund at Calvary Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
