Donald was born on 1/17/1932 to Henry and Ann VanderVeen in Ionia MI.
Don served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Korea. He received his draft notice the day before his wedding to Lillian Ann McCoy in June 1952. They were married 73 years.
Don and Lillian were charter members of west 44th St Christian Reformed Church and Don served as the 1st consistory as an Elder as well as the superintendent of the Sunday School.
Don retired from Grand Rapids Gravel as a driver after 37 years of service. After retirement he assisted his wife with the Lenger Travel Agency. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin they built in the 60’s and he had a great love of music.
Donald has 5 surviving children, Robert and Cris (Reese), Laurie (Larry) VanHaitsma, Thomas, Robin (Dave) Finkbeiner and Cherie and (Jeff) Fuss; Grandchildren, Justin (Stephanie) VanderVeen, Randy (Richelle) VanderVeen, Tyler Van Haitsma, Erin (Scott) Walcott, Nathan (April) VanderVeen, Krista Luloff, Michael VanderVeen, Holly (Jeff) Drew, Kyle Finkbeiner, Nicholas (Joshua) McCoy; and 16 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Anne VanderVeen; Sisters-in- law, Louise Wheeler and Janine (Casey) Burns.
Don was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Henry (Gertrude) VanderVeen, Peter
(Winifred) VanderVeen, Bernard (Jean) VanderVeen; sister Coreen (Harold) Baker.
A Funeral will be at 11:00 am on December 11, 2024 at Faith Community CRC, 5250 Byron Center Ave, Wyoming. A visitation will be held one hour earlier at 10:00 am and a light lunch to follow the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Faith Hospice. The Family is forever grateful for their service during their time of need.
