Donald Kevin Simons, age 53, of rural Stanton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 12, 2011 while at work. The son of Aldie Louis & Marjorie Jane (King) Simons, he was born on May 1, 1958 in East Gary, Indiana and had worked as a hardware department stock clerk at Meijer in Greenville.
On Sept. 14, 1999, in Rockford, he married the former Roxanne Marie Sheldon. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, studying the Bible and family geneology, loved Chicago Cubs baseball, and was an avid fan of NASCAR and both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tom Simons.
Surviving are his wife, Roxanne Simons of Stanton; three children, Richard & Rebecca Race of Lakeview, Nakieshia Simons & David Day of Stanton, and Donald Earl Simons of Carson City; two step-children, Kyle Louis & Shurie Simons, and Thomas Simons & Chasity Mason, all of Stanton; six brothers and sisters, Chuck & Diane Simons of Lake Station, Indiana, Rita Cooper, Terry Simons, Art & Terri Simons, all of Stanton, Tammy Simons of Sidney, and Brian Simons & Connie Blanks of Edmore; four grandchildren, Evelyn Johnson, David Day Jr., Kolan Simons, and Eshanna Simons; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation is Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place privately at Hillside Cemetery in Entrican.
