Donald Leroy Leisure, age 76, of Edmore, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his home under the loving care of his family and Mid-Michigan Home Care. The son of Horace N. & Evelyn (Scott) Leisure, he was born on January 4, 1937 in Lansing and was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Salisbury during the Korean War.
On October 15th, 1958, he married Judith Kay Pennington and together they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Don retired from the former Electrolux Home Products in Greenville where he worked as a master electrician and also worked as an electrical inspector for the Montcalm County building department. Don was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan.
Don loved spending time with his family and loved fishing, hunting, camping, and playing country music. He and his wife, Judy, were in several bands and also often played for fun at many family gatherings and picnics. Don also joined in many of the local jamborees around his hometown. Don and his beloved wife Judy were especially fond of Canada and like clockwork would pack up their trailer and head to Canada to fish and explore for two weeks every summer. Don also loved his cat, Squeeks, who he spoiled and cherished.
Don was the type of person who worked hard and took care of his family and would often freely help those who needed his extensive knowledge in electrical. Often he would go around town when a storm would knock out power and help people get their service working again at no charge. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear for those who needed him or his advice... especially his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Leisure in 2009; a brother, Chuck Leisure; and a sister, Jenny Smith.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, including his four children, Staranne & Arlin VanNortrick of Gowen, Laura & Mark Jewell of Six Lakes, Lenny Leisure of Edmore, and Lisa Leisure of Texas; three grandchildren, Shawn & Virginia VanNortrick, Brandy & Charles Silk, and Trisha Hyde; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Sue Bashore, Betty Yunker, and Madeline Gee; and several nieces and nephews.
