Donald Johnson

April 15, 1927 — October 28, 2007

Mr. Donald F. Johnson, age 80, of Greenville, passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 28, 2007 at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, Byron Center, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. The son of Edward & Mary (Sixberry) Johnson, he was born on April 15, 1927 in Greenville. After graduating from high school, he married Mary Louise Dunlap on Oct. 31, 1947 in Greenville and had a career with the former Gibson Refrigerator Company that lasted 42 years. He headed the drafting department at the Belding air conditioning plant until it closed. An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing, and was a member of the Flat River Conservation Club, as well as a life-member of the Greenville Masonic Lodge No. 96 F&AM. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant children, Donald Jr. and Betty Louise; and two sisters, Margie and Virgilene. Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Mary L. Johnson of Greenville; their children, Jeffrey William & Dawn Johnson of Rockford, and Rebecca Marie & Murray Dewar of Grand Rapids; a grandson, Jason & Lisa Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; two great grandsons, Jarrad & Hunter Johnson, both at home; a sister, Alice Aylsworth of Greenville; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Thomas & Anna Mae Dunlap of Greenville, and Becky Dunlap of Belding; his foursome golf partners, Paul Horvath, Bill Thompson, and Doug Weaver; and several nieces and nephews. Honoring his wishes, private services will be held with burial following at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Congregational Church of Greenville or Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods, Byron Center.
