Donald Harry Hammond, age 61, of Gowen, passed away early Sunday morning, December 18, 2011 at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack. The son of Harry Donald & Marjorie (Slicker) Hammond, he was born on May 27, 1950 in Greenville. On August 7, 1971, in Greenville, he married Teresa Mae Sisson and together they enjoyed 40 years of marriage. In 2005, Don retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company after 31 years of service and had been a member of U.A.W. Local 137. Don enjoyed horses, hunting, and was always willing to help his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his parents-in-law, Ervin C. & Celia Mae Sisson; by a son, Christopher Lee Hammond on Jan. 15, 2002; by a nephew, Dylan Charles Blum in 1993; and by a great niece, Jadelyne Schenden in 2006. Surviving are his wife, Teresa Hammond of Gowen; a son and two daughters-in-law, Donald Harry II & Leslie Hammond of Greenville, and Brandy Hammond, and her fiance(c) Adam Forrester, of Trufant; four grandchildren, Christopher Lee Hammond II, Ashley Marie Hammond, Dakota Charles Hammond, and Morgan Forrester; his "adopted" grandchildren, T.J. Deveraux and Layla Dean; a sister, Catherine & Roger Hausler of Boyne Falls; two brothers, Walter & Catherine Hammond of Trufant, and George Hammond of Greenville; siblings-in-law, Rosemary & Ed Landers of Morrison, Tennessee, Wendy & Scott Hunt of Stanton, and Annette & Terry Blum of Stanton; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions for the family's wishes will be available. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Greenville Community Church, 6596 S. Vining Road, Greenville, with the Rev. Joel Heron officiating.
