Donald Jay Brown also known as “Donnie” and “DB”, age 50, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday, February 15, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. He was born October 22, 1974, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Sherelyn (Vining) Brown. Donnie was a hardworking, loyal, and dedicated worker and friend. Throughout his career he learned to be a jack of all trades and it was no wonder that his coworkers came to call him friend. Donnie loved to meet new people and was known to greet everyone with a handshake, so much so that some folks called him “Handshake Don.”
Donnie had a heart of gold, was always willing to help others, and would give a perfect stranger the shirt off his own back if it would benefit them and put a smile on their face. It didn’t matter if it disrupted his day or delayed him doing what was on his to do list, if someone needed assistance, he was there to help. It was his caring, giving, pay it forward, and positive outlook on life that drew people to want to be around him. Those same people came to Donnie’s rescue when he needed a new roof on his house and they helped him without question.
Donnie was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and ride his bike. He recently became quite the gardener. He tended daily to his vegetable garden and was so proud of everything he grew. He enjoyed watching all sports including his WWE wrestling. He was also a huge Lions, Tigers and Michigan football fan. The thing that brought him the most joy though was being around the people he loved.
Survivors include his 15-year-old twin children, Nevaeh and Donald Brown II and their mother, Heather; his mother, Sherelyn Brown; sisters, Sherri (Nathan) Jessup and Jennifer Humphrey; nieces and nephews, Bryan (Morgan) and Derek Herman and Seth and Shayla Humphrey and their father, Rick Humphrey; aunt, Bonnie (Craig) Chupp; and many cousins, coworkers, and friends that will miss him dearly.
Donnie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Barbara Vining.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Crosswinds Community Church, 3815 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids, MI 49548.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Corewell Health Hospice for their help and care throughout this difficult time which allowed them to keep Donnie at home like he had wanted.
