Donald Bowne

On Thursday, August 30, 2018, "Papa" Don Bowne said goodbye to this realm and began his next journey to be with the Lord. Papa was a man characterized by his love of and loyalty to family and friends, and his faith in God. He was especially proud of his service to his country in the United States Army. Those that knew him saw his strength, conviction and determination. Papa's wit was keen and quick and he loved to make people laugh. His knowledge of old movies was instrumental to his trivia team. Already a chorus of "we miss you Papa" has begun, but he will always be remembered for his full enjoyment of the gift of life. Papa was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Margaret (Baird) Bowne and siblings, Peg Hansen, Bob Bowne and Leo Bowne. Surviving him is Nancy, his wife of 57 years; their children Elizabeth (John) Millington and Blaine Bowne; grandchildren Parker and Pierce; sisters Joanne Silver, Elise Knudsen and Deb Utz; brother Bill Bowne; sisters-in-law Mary Bowne and Carol Klotz, as well as many nieces and nephews. Please join the family on Saturday, September 8 from 11am-12pm for a time of visitation at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 1120 4 Mile Rd. Ne, Grand Rapids. The memorial service will begin at 12pm, following the visitation, with Fr. Tom Paige officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice and St. Jude's Catholic Church. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place.
