Donald E. Bowen, age 93, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Thornapple Manor.
The son of Howard & Sable (Pinckney) Bowen, he was born on March 26, 1925 in Saranac.
Don was raised on the family farm in Saranac with his two brothers and five sisters. They all attended the local one room school house down the road. He was a farmer, milk truck driver and a construction worker. On June 19, 1954 he married the love of his life Johanna Driscoll and they had three children. Don enjoyed his daily car rides across Barry county looking for wildlife in the fields.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, and his wife Jo. He leaves behind his three children, Burton Bowen, Larry (Laura) Bowen and Cindy (Mark) Crossley; five grandchildren; his sister Elise Moore; sister-in-law Fran Bowens; brother-in-law Bob Harding; as well as many nieces and nephews. Don will also be missed by his companion dog Jack who went everywhere with him. Don and Jack were never too far from one another until last month when Don went to live at Thornapple Manor. The family is very grateful to the Manor for the wonderful care they gave Don in his final days.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Delton VFW Hall, 10353 Stoney Point Dr, Delton. Graveside services will be held after the celebration, at Cressey Road Cemetery and all are welcome to come and join the family as they remember Don.
