Donald Barber

October 22, 1933 — February 18, 2022

Donald Lee Barber, Sr. passed away in the early hours of February 18th, 2022 after a brief illness. Don was born in Clare, Michigan on October 22, 1933 to Dale and Lillian Barber. Don attended Clare High School, from which he graduated in 1951. From there, he studied pharmacy at Ferris State University in the class of 1955. He went on to serve his community as a pharmacist for the next 55 years. Beyond his career, Don was an active and beloved member of the Alma Elks Lodge for over 50 years, as well as a member of the Masons. In his spare time and retirement, Don stayed active and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, and a love of cooking and grilling. Don was also an avid Detroit sports fan, and loved Westerns and old black and white films. Don was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Lillian Barber, his uncles Don and Sandy Barber, his first wife Shirley Rhodes, and his second wife Mary Barber. He is survived by his brothers Bill (Marie) Barber and Bob (Jane, deceased) Barber; his son Don (Sue) Barber; daughter Dena Barber; daughter Debbie (Dan) Horricks; daughter Darcy (Louis) Hubbell; his grandchildren Courtney (Nate) Vincenty-Cole, Daniel Horricks, Helena Barber, Philip Hubbell, and Joshua (Lauren Hanlon, fiance) Hubbell; and his great-grandchildren Mason Vincenty-Cole, Hunter Vincenty-Cole, Alexander Horricks, and Remington Horricks. Don was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was greatly loved by his family and many friends. Please join us in a celebration of Don's life from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Alma Elks Lodge No. 1400, 610 West Warwick Dr., Alma, MI 48801. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Don's memory to the Alma Elks Lodge.
