Diane Becker

May 16, 1960 — July 18, 2024

It is with incredible admiration and a heavy heart that I, Kelly, share the passing of my beloved mother, Diane (Musser-Weese) Becker. Born on May 16, 1960, in Byron Center, MI, Diane was a beacon of resilience and strength, a trait she carried with her until her passing on July 18, 2024. As beautifully put by Maya Angelou, "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." This quote encapsulated Diane's spirit perfectly. Diane was an industrious woman, her resilience evident in her professional life as well, where she worked in a factory as a tech. She was so dedicated to her growth that she even took a tech course to become a lead tech at her workplace. She previously worked at Community Estates with Ann Sabo. Claiming herself to be the maintenance ma'am, she could problem-solve on the fly and fix whatever came their way. Working with Calene Habian, Al Sheldon, and Theresa, the greenhouse is where she thrived. Outside of her work, Diane was a member of the local Fraternal Order of the Eagles, her spirit of community and camaraderie shining brightly. Still, it was in her hobbies where Diane's creativity truly blossomed. An avid gardener, she found immense joy in nurturing both food and flowers, creating a haven of natural beauty in her backyard. I hope to continue her garden. She also had a talent for macrame and DIY crafts, her hands always busy creating something beautiful or repairing what was broken. Her culinary creations were also a place that she shined. An excellent cook and baker, Diane filled our home with the aroma of love and warmth. So many times I woke up in a puddle of drool. She oftentimes experimented with ideas and recipes; some failures, but mostly successes. Above all, Diane was a devoted mother to me and my brother John. I can remember the many beach days. She'd even bring along the neighbor girls, Kathy & Sarah, or my best friends, Emily & Andrea. Diane was the type to many too many cookies and share them with friends and strangers. She was a woman who found her greatest happiness in the simple pleasures of life. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Diane embodied this sentiment, cherishing every moment she spent with those she loved. We were in the peak of happiness during our time with stepdad Bill Weese. He took us on many adventures, and we traveled. Everything changed with my little brother and him were injured in the snowmobile accident the day after Christmas in 2000. John was coma-ed for a week and passed Jan of 2001. Bill passed two tumultuous years later from injuries. My Mom was never the same. I believe (because she would never show it), she struggled with the pain, grief, and resentment until the day she died. Despite the trials and tribulations that we faced, she remained a pillar of absolute strength, resilience, and love. Diane was predeceased by her father, Art Helmer. My grandma Nina (Kerr) Helmer-Hornsby is still with us, along with her older siblings Mike Helmer and Debbie Trussel. She is survived by me, her loving daughter, Kelly. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. I see her amongst the flowers. I encourage everyone who was touched by Diane's life to share your memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Let us celebrate her life and remember the joy and love she brought into this world. I am asking for donations toward Mom's cremation expenses be directed to the funeral home, while I navigate the probate process. I made a gofundme for myself and home expenses, but I want the invoice for the funeral home to be made and over with first. Her remains were put into a biodegradable urn (with seeds) that I plan to plant with a sapling of my favorite tree in our yard once I officially take over the house.
