Derick Hershberger

View Video Tribute Derick Earl Hershberger, age 25, of Cedar Springs, formerly of Greenville, was called home to his Lord Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, 2006 following an automobile accident in Nelson Township, Kent County. The son of Don Earl Hershberger & Debbie Sue Salyer, he was born on Sept. 16, 1981 in Grand Rapids. A 1999 graduate of Greenville High School, Derick worked in road construction for C. Slagter Construction Co. and was to be promoted to foreman in the spring. Derick enjoyed hunting, listening to country music, and most of all spending time with his family. He enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Engaged to Lynsey Keyes, they looked forward to marriage and were finalizing the purchase of their first home. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Wilbur Buck Salyer. and Roy Hershberger; and an uncle, Bruce Hershberger. Surviving are his fiance, Lynsey Keyes of Cedar Springs; his mother, Debbie Salyer & Jerry Tanis of Rockford; his father, Don & Sandy Hershberger of Ravenna; a brother, David & Angie Hershberger of Sand Lake; two sisters, Danielle Bennett of Lakeview, and Deanna & Jon Collin of Mt. Pleasant; a step-brother, Kevin Kimble of Ravenna; a step-sister, Lori & Tony Bennett of Howard City; grandparents, Myrna & Junior Avery of Cedar Springs, and Delores Hershberger of Port Charlotte, Florida; a great grandmother, Cora Lay of Cedar Springs; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006 from the Family Life Center Church of God, 8683 Storey Road, Belding (one block north of Fisk Road on M-91) with the Rev. William L. Overton, pastor of the Family Life Center, and Pastor Sean Kidd officiating. Burial will follow at Greene Cemetery near Orleans. Visitation is on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for memorial contributions will be available.
