Dennis Spoelman

Dennis "Denny" Spoelman, age 77, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born on July 6, 1946, in Hudsonville, to Cornelius & Gertrude Spoelman. Dennis graduated from Calvin College with a degree in Secondary Education and later obtained his Master's Degree from Western Michigan University. He worked for Holland Christian Schools before his retirement in 2005. Dennis coached softball, directed senior plays at HCHS, sponsored the downhill ski club and taught in History and English departments. He enjoyed fishing, hiking, skiing, skating, reading, gardening, raising pigeons. Dennis loved being outdoors on adventures. Dennis was a long-time member of Faith CRC in Holland, Michigan. Dennis served on many committees and participated in Mission trips through the years. He was well respected and admired as a thoughtful, caring man, always ready to serve where needed. In the school summers and after retirement Dennis worked with a team to paint many buildings and residents in Holland, Michigan, and surrounding communities. Following retirement from teaching, he continued his painting passion through his employment at Dutch Village, as well as working part-time at Gateway Mission. Dennis was always willing to volunteer and help others. Most recently, he volunteered in various positions at Evergreen Commons. As a greeter, he always had a friendly smile to greet incoming members. He married his second wife, Vivian Spoelman on February 26, 2023, who survives; Dennis and Vivian were married for one year and as Dennis described it. "he had a second chance at marriage and he enjoyed every moment of it." They packed a lot of adventures into 1 1/2 years with their dog Miley tagging along. Survivors include his wife, Vivian; children, Lisa (Matthew) Reimink, Karen Woolery. Timothy (Anne) Spoelman; seven grandchildren; siblings, Mary (David) Timmer, Eunice (Addis) Rezene and Larry Spoelman. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Spoelman; son-in-law, Jason Woolery; siblings, Linda (Vern), Ken Spoelman, Joan (Herb) and Ron Spoelman. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 pm on April 28, 2024 at Kollen Park in Holland.
