Deborah Walker

August 25, 1952 — December 19, 2023

Deborah Jean Walker, age 71, of West Olive, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Tuesday, December 19, 2023. She was born August 25, 1952, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Edward and Doris (Stevens) Rooney. Debbie married Alford Louis Walker on August 20, 1983, in Pontiac, Michigan. Together they raised their daughter, Ashley and celebrated over 33 years of marriage before Alford passed away on February 2, 2017. Debbie drove school bus for many years with the Oakland County Public School System until she retired in the late nineties. She enjoyed shopping, trips to the casino, music of all genres, the frequent cold beverage, and spending time with her family. She was known as “Drill Sergeant Debbie,” but had the biggest heart. The world will be much quieter without her. Survivors include her daughter, Ashley Walker and grandson, Brayden Compagner; step-children, Marcia, Jeanine, Al, and Natalie; as well as a long list of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alford; her parents; sisters, Kathy and Sandy Rooney; brother, Robert “Bob” Rooney; as well as her sister-in-law, Edna Morton. Per Debbie’s wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time, however, arrangements for a memorial will be made at a later date. She will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery with her husband Alford. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Holland for the care, help, and compassion they have shown throughout this difficult time. Debbie has always held St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital close to her heart; donations can be sent to them in her name.
