Obituary

Dawn Sue Campbell, age 72, of Greenville, Michigan, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Corewell Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The daughter of James & Delores (Loveless) Scharaswak, she was born on October 5, 1953 in Ionia, Michigan.

Dawn was a 1971 graduate of Carson City-Crystal High School, and a graduate from Grand Valley State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biology and her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Her career started as a counselor with Big Brothers & Big Sisters in Ionia, Michigan and later achieved her LMSW (Licensed Master’s Social Work), ACSW (Academy of Certified Social Workers) and certified in CAAC (Certified Associate Addiction Counselor) working as a Clinical Social Worker for over 31 years in community mental health for Ionia County, Isabella County and Montcalm County. She eventually moved to private practice with Journeys Counseling Center of Ionia, Michigan and Thresholds Counseling in Greenville, Michigan and retired in 2020.

She was a co-founder of The Heartland House in Greenville, Michigan providing mental health services in the community and actively led a bible study group weekly at the Friendship House in Greenville, Michigan.

Dawn is survived by her spouse and life partner, Sheri Bennett; her children, Christopher Scharaswak of Brighton, Michigan, Tobias Gibbs of Stanton, Michigan, Lisa Cox of Greenville, Michigan, John (Kim) Campbell of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Joseph (Ian) Hughes of Hot Springs, Arkansas; step-son, Jeremy Bennett of Grand Rapids, Michigan; former daughters-in-law, Christen Scharaswak, Stacey Sharkey, and Lindsey Bennett; her grandchildren, Jacob, Mia, Caleb, Adysen, Devin, Alex, Tyson, Aydin, Carley, Jordan, Taylor, Tajma, Brendan, Adalynn, Carson, preceded in death Chloe Marie; her brothers, Steve (Jill) Loveless of Greenville, Michigan, John (Carla) Scharaswak of Stanton, Michigan, Tony Scharaswak of St. Louis, Michigan; her sisters, Paula Fethkenher of Forney, Texas, Mary (Jim ) Weiss of Rockwell City, Iowa; Valerie (Bruce) Peterson of Sac City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Terry Scharaswak of Vestaburg, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents James and Delores (Loveless) Scharaswak; two brothers, James Scharaswak and William Scharaswak; and a brother-in-law, Mike Fethkenher.

Visitation with the family is from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The family welcomes flowers, which may be delivered to the funeral home.
