Obituary

David G. "Dave” Williamson passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 13th, 2026, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Dave was born April 11, 1939 to Charles and Ellen (Bachmayer) Wiliamson in Monroe, Michigan. Dave graduated from Monroe High School in 1957, playing all sports, but excelling in football and swimming.

He attended Western Michigan University for a short time, walking onto the football team. He left school after a semester, and entered the US Army. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska for much of his service as an artillery specialist. He suffered a badly broken jaw that required surgery and ultimately led to his honorable discharge.

Dave took a job at the Firestone Tire testing facility in Fort Stockton, Texas. There he befriended Huey Posey, and was introduced to Vicki McSpedden, Huey’s sister-in-law, at the bowling alley in Fort Stockton. After a whirlwind romance, they married December 28, 1960, in Fort Stockton. During their 48 year marriage, they raised 3 boys together.

Dave worked for the National Cash Register Company for many years, living in Kalamazoo,MI, South Bend,IN, Dayton,OH twice, Winthrop, ME, Longview, TX, Galveston,TX, Pontiac, MI, Pensacola, FL, and San Antonio, TX. In 1976, Dave and Vicki bought The Village Inn, a ski lodge outside Walloon Lake, Michigan. The name was soon changed to The Boyne Valley Lodge. They ran “the lodge” for quite some time. The primary business was lodging during the skiing season. He also worked for Sysco food distributors, owned Moore’s Hardware, Williamson Insurance, a Sears catalog store, a Western Auto store and Dave’s Maytag Home Appliance Center. During these years, Dave enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, and softball. He served on the Walloon Lake volunteer Fire Department, was an active member of the Petoskey Rotary Club and the Boyne City Lions Club and volunteered at the Methodist Thrift Shop in Clinton, AR.

In retirement, Dave and Vicki moved to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas where he was an EMT with their local Fire Department. They traveled extensively, spending much time with their children and grandchildren, spread between Western Colorado, Southern Indiana and Southwest Michigan. Vicki passed away January 4, 2009, after a long battle with cancer.

After losing Vicki, Dave lived in Fairhope, AL and Newburgh, IN before finding his way back to San Antonio, TX. On November 17, 2022 Dave married Sara Elizabeth Wilson née Jones in San Antonio. They had been friends since the 1970’s, when they were neighbors in San Antonio. Dave and Sara were active volunteers at the Boys Town children’s charity Thrift Store in San Antonio.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie & Ellen Williamson, wife of 48 years Vicki, brother Joe, and sister Sally Donovan.
