David Royal Thompson, Sr., age 68, of Perry, passed away early Thursday morning, December 13, 2012 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. The son of Jack & Dorothy Mae (Leonard) Thompson, he was born on August 30, 1944 in Port Huron. Following his graduation from high school, David served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, a Rifle Marksmanship Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge. David retired from Michigan State University, where he worked as a stockhandler, after 35 years of service. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Davis; two sons, Christopher Thompson and David Thompson, Jr.; and two brothers, Jess Thompson and Jack Thompson. Burial services, with full military honors rendered by the U.S. Army, are at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Parker Memorial Baptist Church, 1902 East Cavanaugh Road, Lansing.
