David Rydahl

David Allen Rydahl, age 72, of Sidney, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 26, 2011 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital in Greenville after a brief illness. The son of Martin & Lela (Martin) Rydahl, he was born on Feb. 3, 1939 in Sidney. On Aug. 28, 1959, in Sidney, he married the former Carol Lee Kosten. At a young age David began farming, then worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company, Kalfacts Plastics, and retired from GRC in Rockford. He will be remembered for his ability to fix just about anything, his love of tractors and gardening, and his willingness to help others. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Dorothy Kosten; his parents-in-law, Herman & Cornelia Kosten; three sisters-in-law, Norma LaSarge, Ruetta Kosten, and May Kosten; and eight brothers-in-law, Herman Kosten, Robert Kosten, Gerald Kosten, David Kosten, Al Clemens, Harlow Evans, Cecil Jeffrey, and Howard Taylor. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Carol Rydahl of Sidney; their children, Daniel Rydahl of Greenville, Pam Hutson & Al Wright of Stanton, and Cherie & Kim Dingman of Sidney; a sister, Margaret Kosten of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Abigail & Jason Shepard, Anna & Matt Hoover, Zach Rydahl, Kim Basney, Krista & Jim Larsen, Bobby & Monica Sowles, Jamie & Brandon Stowell, Tyler Dingman, and Derek Dingman; fourteen great grandchildren; siblings-in-law, Ellen Clemens, Donna Jeffery, Mary & Wayne Adams, Kenneth & Peggy Kosten, and Leona Kosten; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Kenneth Harger, retired pastor of Shiloh Community Church, will officiate and burial will follow at Sidney Township Cemetery.
