David A. "Dave" Outman, age 67, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2013 under the loving care of his family, friends, and Spectrum Health Hospice, at home on his farm outside of Greenville, following a three and a half year battle with cancer.
The son of Paul & Selma Outman, he was born on November 1, 1945 in Belding and was a 1963 graduate of Belding High School. He then attended Central Michigan University, Grand Rapids Junior College, and Montcalm Community College, graduating at the top of his class with a degree in tooling design.
Dave retired after 40 years with Granco-Clark in Belding, having spent the last eight years of his career as general manager of the plant in Suzhou, China.
On February 16, 2001, in Greenville, he married Candy Deal and together they enjoyed twelve years of marriage. He will be remembered for his gentleness, his love of family, and his ability to make others smile and laugh. Dave enjoyed coming home and spending time with his grandchildren, playing his guitar, and watching NASCAR, as well as tending to his farm and his animals. Always one to keep himself busy, he helped his wife in cleaning the church, built things for the preschool, was a member of the Jinji Golf Club in China, and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barb (Patterson) Outman; and a brother-in-law, Tim Deal. Surviving are his wife, Candy "Miss Candy" Outman; three sons, Mark Outman of Greenville, J.R. Withey of Tennessee, and Gavin Outman at home (whom Dave and Candy adopted); twin daughters, Darcie Withey and Danielle & Jeremy McConnell, all of Greenville; three grandchildren, Lexi Riley, Liam McConnell and J.D. Ingraham; two sisters, Lynda & Nick Ciganick of Wisconsin, and Paulie & George Scheden of Houghton Lake; siblings-in-law, Patty & Ed Degreave of Muskegon, Robert & Elaine Deal of Ohio, Terry Deal of Grand Rapids, Tom & Dawn Deal of Blanchard, and Gary & Susan Deal of Greenville; special family friend, Beth Taylor of Greenville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation is Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, and on Sunday from 1-2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 126 E. Cass Street, Greenville, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of the First Congregational Church will officiate. Honoring his wishes, cremation will follow the service.
