David Mathews

David Alan Mathews, age 65, of Grand Rapids, MI passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2020. He was born September 22, 1954, in Jacksonville, Florida to Giles and Joyce (Wichner) Mathews. David graduated from St. Joseph High School in St. Joseph, MI class of 1973. He enjoyed different careers in the carpentry field but woodworking was his favorite and for many years he owned a small shop in Naples, Florida where he did custom cabinetry. He later returned to Michigan to be near family when dad's health declined. David is survived by his mother, Joyce Mathews; sister, Kelley (Stanley) Krzykwa; and nephews, Matthew Carlee and Alexander Carlee. He was preceded in death by his father, Giles; brother-in-law, William Carlee; and his beloved dog, Rip. Per Dave's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
