Ludington

With profound sadness David T. Kozicki, departed peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the age of 75, at Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI.

Born in Michigan to the late Thaddeus and Mary (Pekich) Kozicki, Sr., David exhibited a remarkable depth of character from a tender age. His thoughtful disposition, unwavering steadfastness, and an innate capacity to connect with others were the cornerstones upon which he built a life rich in purpose and cherished relationships. These admirable traits were evident through his formative years, culminating in his graduation from Grand Haven High School and his subsequent achievement of a Bachelor of Science degree from Grand Valley State College in 1972.

David's professional path began in the world of finance at Old Kent Bank. His calm demeanor and genuine interest in people made him a natural fit for banking, where he quickly earned trust and respect. This career saw him rise to the occasion, notably by opening the bank's branch in Gaylord. However, it was in 1983 that David, alongside his beloved wife Michele, embarked on what would become their most defining adventure: the acquisition of The Grand in Ludington. This courageous leap of faith blossomed into a remarkable 43-year odyssey, built on the foundations of tireless dedication, heartfelt hospitality, and an abundance of warmth.

The Grand, under David's gentle guidance, transcended the definition of a mere restaurant; it became a cherished community hub. Here, David truly found his element, most content behind the counter, weaving captivating stories, and extending a warm welcome to each customer, many of whom swiftly became lifelong friends. His understated humor, profound kindness, and sincere interest in every individual who crossed his threshold made The Grand a place where memories were made and connections fostered.

Above all, David’s world revolved around his family. On June 26, 1971, in Grand Haven, he married his high school sweetheart, Michele (Reau) Kozicki, commencing a beautiful marriage that spanned 54 years. Their enduring love story was a testament to devotion, shared dreams, and countless treasured moments. David was a loving and supportive husband, an incredibly proud father to his sons, and a doting grandfather. His grandson, Maximus Kozicki, affectionately known as his "little buddy," occupied a particularly special and tender corner of his heart.

David’s memory will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Michele Kozicki; his sons, Adam (BethAnn) Kozicki and Joshua Kozicki (alongside Sarah & Kiley); his beloved grandson, Maximus Kozicki; and his sisters, Shirley Kozicki of Grand Haven and Joan Revers of Marine City. He also leaves behind a loving circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who were touched by his generous spirit. David was preceded in joining his parents, Thaddeus and Mary Kozicki Sr., and his in-laws, Donald and Kathleen Reau, along with many other cherished family members who went before him.

In accordance with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held this summer on the serene Pentwater River—a tranquil setting perfectly suited for a man who found profound joy in life's simple, meaningful moments and quiet reflection.

David will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to resonate through the countless lives he enriched. He will be remembered for his steadfast presence, his boundless generosity, and the indelible mark he left—one heartfelt conversation, and one genuine, warm smile at a time.
