David Kosten

March 24, 1933 — June 17, 2007

Mr. David C. Kosten, age 74, of rural Greenville, passed away Sunday evening, June 17, 2007 at home under the loving care of his family and Carson Home Hospice. The son of Herman & Cornelia (Brecker) Kosten, he was born on March 24, 1933 in Grand Rapids. After graduating from Stanton Agricultural High School in 1951, he married Dorothy A. Rydahl on Oct. 10, 1953 in Sidney. Together they raised their family and ran their dairy farm on Holland Lake Road for the next 50 years, until Dorothy passed away on Nov. 23, 2003. On Feb. 19, 2005, in Crystal, he married Margaret Taylor. David enjoyed his weekly potluck suppers with his mens fellowship group, as well as hunting and fishing... especially in the Upper Peninsula at his retreat in Ontonagon. David was a long time member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association and the Farm Bureau, having served its board of directors. He had also served on various planning and zoning boards in Montcalm Township. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Kosten; three brothers, Gerald Kosten, Herman Kosten, and Robert Kosten; and a sister, Mickey Lasarge. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Kosten of Greenville; four children, Dave B. Kosten of Greenville, Karen K. Kosten of Gowen, Rosemary Hyde of Greenville, and Della & Jerry Stiver of Howard City; two step-children, Kristine Naumann of Crystal, and Mark Taylor of Grand Ledge; four sisters, Ellen & Al Clements of Byron Center, Marilyn & Wayne Adams of Sheridan, Donna Jeffrey of Sheridan, Carol & David Rydahl of Sidney; one brother, Ken & Peg Kosten of Fenwick; fifteen grandchildren, Melissa, Jessica and Matt Kosten, all of Greenville, Jennifer & Mark Morter of Texas, Michelle Dewey of Peirson, Nicos Georgiades of Pierson, Christopher Georgiades of Trufant, Robert, Ryan, and Renae Hyde, all of Greenville, Charles Gates of Lansing, Ben Gates of Greenville, Lisa Borden of Howard City, Andy and Alex Aylsworth of Greenville; step-grandchildren, Trisha & Greg Saylor of Crystal, Andrew Taylor of Toledo, Ohio, Kegan Taylor of Grand Ledge; nineteen great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Leona Kosten of Sidney; a special aunt, Eleanor Buckmaster of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with Pastor Tom Hansen of Greenville Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at East Montcalm Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home, where envelopes for memorial contributions to either Carson Home Hospice or Greenville Community Church will be available.
