Mr. David Lee Harris, Jr., age 69, formerly of Los Angeles, California, passed away early Friday morning, Sept. 14, 2007 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
The son of Martha (Robinson) & David Lee Harris, Sr., he was born on April 6, 1938 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi. David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Cold War era. Following his discharge, he continued his service to our nation as a civilian employee of the federal government.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Harris; and a sister, Mildred Young.
Surviving are two brothers and eight sisters, Timothy & Shirley Harris, Sr., Dorothy Lee & Roosevelt Strong, Delmore & Mildred Harris, Octavia Harvey, Bertha Strong, Deloris & Jimmie Pittman, Blondine Stancle, Martha Jean & Frank Melvin, Elmira Tansil, and Kathleen & Harvey Birchfield; an uncle, Alfred Robinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of couisins.
Funeral services, with full military honors, are at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007 from the Chapel of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, 3000 Monroe Avenue N.E., with Chaplain John Poston officiating. Visitation is on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow privately at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans Cemetery.
