David C. Ertle, age 64, of Spencer Township, passed away early Monday morning, October 12, 2009 at his home following a sudden, unexpected heart attack.
The son of Virgil Maine & Katherine Viola (Wray) Ertle, he was born on Jan. 3, 1945 in Detroit.
A 1964 graduate of Kenowa Hills High School, David proudly served in the Michigan National Guard, had been an EMT with Buds Ambulance in Grand Rapids, and for several years was a a volunteer firefighter with the former Harvard Fire Department. On Aug. 29, 1973, in Grandville, he married Priscilla Mae Penny Patrick.
A licensed private pilot, Dave enjoyed flying, riding his motorcycle, and fishing. He retired as a printer from the Etheridge Printing Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Penny Ertle of Spencer Township; their daughter, Renee' & Darrin Hammond; a granddaughter, Lauren Mae Hammond, all of Indianapolis, Indiana; two brothers, Wray & Linda Ertle of Hopkins, and Floyd & Janice Ertle of Grand Rapids; siblings-in-law, Pat & Doug Beckett of Gowen, and Kevin Patrick of Tupelo, Mississippi; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family invites relatives and friends to gather to celebrate Daves life on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 from 1-4 p.m. at the Spencer Township Hall. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place.
