David Lee Bettisworth of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2025 due to an undiagnosed heart condition.  David (“Dave”) was born February 7, 1967, to parents Linda J. Hartley Bettisworth and Denny L. Bettisworth (dec. 2019).

David spent most of his early years in St. Louis, Missouri then moved to Mount Pleasant, Michigan where he attended high school and then graduated from Michigan State University.

David is survived by his mother, whom he lovingly called “Mumsy,” sisters Kara (Tom) Stefanson, Kim (Bill Raack) Bettisworth and Kris Bettisworth.   He was an adoring (and shenanigans encouraging ) uncle to nephews Gibson Raack and Logan Stefanson and niece Finley Raack. He is also survived by other close family members and countless friends.  Dave, Betti, or Buttsy, as he was known, never met a stranger. He was a kind soul with a warm smile and a joke.

Dave excelled in sales. He began his career in the marine industry in 1993 with G&T Industries in Elkhart, Indiana and then with Coatney Sales in 2011. Dave was a running encyclopedia of all things marine and recreation industry-related.  David proudly accepted multiple Salesperson of the Year awards during his employment with G&T Industries.

Dave made many friends along the way and enjoyed frequent boat rides, fishing trips, campfires and jokes. As a lover of music, he played the trumpet and the drums and was an excellent singer. He loved to laugh and make people laugh.

Dave shared many happy years with his partner and best friend Kelly, of Michigan. They had a love that would weather any storm. No one could meet Dave nose to nose better than Kelly, which was fun for the rest of us to watch.  They loved each other more than anything. Dave is also survived by Kelly’s mother, daughter and family.

Dave also loved his Spartans! GO GREEN!  Dave enjoyed fishing, his dogs, Stewie and Stella, the Detroit Lions, the St. Louis Cardinals, and his absolute favorite, Dave Mathews Band! He also loved a good joke and another good joke and another…

Dave made sure everyone was having a good time, could sell snow to an Eskimo, and probably hates these clichés. We are calmed by knowing Dave has traveled to a more peaceful place, perhaps the 19th hole with Dad, but we all still miss him, and his laugh, terribly.

“Celebrate we will. 'Cause life is short but sweet for certain".  Dave Mathews, “Two Step”

A date will be set for a Celebration of Life in Spring, 2026.
