Daniel Loyd

Daniel Ezra Loyd, age 90, of Gowen, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 and rejoined his loving wife of 65 years to be forever together again. Daniel was born on Friday, April 25, 1930 in Arkansas to Abel Ezra & Willie Grace (Brooks) Loyd. Daniel was born several years after his other siblings who were already grown. The depression brought on hardships to all families including Daniel's family with a separation of his parents. Being brought up in several homes of several family members, Daniel decided to join the Army Air Corps in the 1940's, a decision that turned into a 22 year career with the United States Air Force. Daniel met the love of his life, Charlotte, on a street corner in Glasgow, Montana. Three months later they eloped to Wichita Falls, Texas. They started their family with a son, Carl (Lois) Loyd, followed by a daughter, Carol (Rick) Marshall, and as years passed welcomed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daniel enjoyed drawing his own plans and then building his airplanes, big, small, it didn't matter, he loved them all. He also enjoyed his faith by ministering to anyone who would listen, always carrying a Bible in his car to give away to any person who wanted to learn more of God's precious words. Daniel felt the need to go to Russia to minister there, bringing shipping containers full of Russian printed Bibles and gently used clothing, but first he taught himself to speak Russian in a limited period of time. After retiring from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant from Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan, he moved several times throughout the lower west side of Michigan, finally settling in Allendale. In 2012, his daughter and son-in-law moved him and Charlotte down to Mt. Vernon, Ohio, until June of 2020 when he moved back to the Gowen, Michigan area. Daniel and Charlotte were members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Danville, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Daniel's life with a open house style gathering from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at The Pavilion by the Lake at Lincoln Pines Resort, 13033 19 Mile Road N.E., Gowen, Michigan 49326, with the rendering of military honors at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2021.
