Daniel Donahue

November 2, 1940 — April 25, 2025

Daniel R. Donahue, age 84, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Ada, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025 after a recent diagnosis of kidney cancer. He had also been dealing with dementia since 2020. A 1958 East Grand Rapids graduate, and proud son of one of EGR's first police officers, then fire chief for a combined service of 40 years (1926 - 1966). He is finally at peace in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, beloved wife, Karen, and son, Scott, who preceded him in death in 2017. Dan is also preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Coral Donahue; in-laws Harold and Luella Kransi; and brothers-in-law, Dale Semon and US Marine Vietnam Veteran Ronald T. Kransi. Dan is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Scott) Donahue-Przekop; grandson, Austin Przekop-Abel; sister, Mary Semon; brothers-in-law, Harold (Sandy) Kransi of FL; Roger (Debby) Kransi of TN; sister-in-law, Kaye (Owen) Wright of MI; and many nieces and nephews. Dan was a devoted family man and extremely patriotic, proudly serving his country in the Army National Guard from 1963 to 1965 and then the Air National Guard until 1969. During his career, he was employed for many years as assistant manager of D&W Foods, and then worked for Meijer. As a young boy, he was an avid collector of toy trains. Later in life, his interest also included new die-cast toy trucks and cars, as well as antique toys. Acting on his love of collecting, he opened his own business in Ada, D&K Toy Collectibles, that he ran with his daughter Debbie for 8 years. A Funeral Mass with military honors will be celebrated on Friday, June 6th, at 11 am at St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church, located at 6477 Ada Dr. SE Ada, MI 49301. The family will receive visitors one hour prior, and there will be a luncheon immediately following the service. A heartfelt thank you to the medical professionals and staff of Care Resources/PACE for taking such great care of Dan since May 2022 and giving him such great pleasure in attending the day center. Also, a tremendous thank you to Nurse Kaila at Faith Hospice who was so compassionate and loving to Dan in the four days she knew him. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Dan to a dementia or cancer foundation of your choice. Honoring his wishes, cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
