In the effervescent heart of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dana Grabinski, danced her way through life, embodying the spirit of courage, resilience, and love. Dana was born on August 27, 1959, in Arlington, California, and passed away on January 15, 2024. She was the epitome of a supportive mother, not just to her children, but to anyone who found themselves in need of a home, a meal, or a listening ear. A line from her favorite Bob Seger song may best illustrate her approach to life, "I've got so much more to think about, deadlines and commitments, what to leave in, what to leave out." Dana left out judgment and negativity and embraced empathy and compassion.
Dana's journey was one of resilience and hard work. She retired from General Motors in 2008 as a Hi-Lo Driver, having dedicated numerous years to ensuring the wellbeing of her family. She was an individual of unwavering strength, raising her three children, Deanna, Dustin, and Daya Sadlik, single-handedly. This feat wasn't merely an act of necessity, but a testament to her boundless love and commitment. She was a maverick, a woman who lived life on her terms, facing challenges head-on, and always emerging victorious.
In her leisure time, Dana was an ardent fan of crime shows, the mystery keeping her on the edge of her seat. She also loved coloring and solving puzzles, an activity that mirrored her life - each piece finding its right place, creating a beautiful picture. But what mattered most to Dana was her family, having fun, and making the most of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen Sharp and Paul Grabinski.
As we remember Dana, let us celebrate her zest for life, her courage, and the love she spread around her. We invite you to share your memories and upload photos of Dana on the memorial page, a beautiful testament to a life well-lived. As we grieve the loss of Dana, let's remember the words of Bob Seger, "In your time, the innocence will fall away...in your time, the mission bells will toll. All along the corridors and river beds, there'll be signs in the sun and the desert winds, whispering, 'In your time.'" Dana, your time was a beautiful melody that will continue to resonate in our hearts.
