Dale Wayne Miller, age 82, of Rockford, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital. The son of LaVern Miller & Laverne (Stemm) Karsen, he was born on September 16, 1941 in Hartford. Dale was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Era and on October 14, 1961, he married his soul-mate, Edith Marie Howard, and together they enjoyed nearly sixty-three years of marriage, and raised one beautiful daughter.
Dale had a zest for life that was evident in his varied interests and hobbies. He loved the great outdoors and often embarked on hunting trips out West with his friends and brother-in-law, Bill. A fan of NASCAR racing, Dale's competitive spirit shone through as he cheered on his favorite drivers. He treasured the winter months he spent in Florida, with his forever-love, Edie, their daughter, Kathy, and life-long friends, creating cherished memories under the warm sun. But above all else, Dale loved spending time with his family and his furry companion, Molly, who is just as spunky and sly like Dale’s favorite character, “Snoopy.”
Dale was preceded in death by his mother and papa, Laverne & HC Karsen; one brother, Robert “Bob” Miller; two sisters, Bonnie & Bill Merrill and Betty & Lowell Brownell; and his wife Edie’s siblings, Carlyle Howard, Joan Ridge, Donald Howard, Ruth Sulko, Russ Howard, and Bruce Howard.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Edie Miller; his daughter, Kathy L. & Scott Alferink; two grandsons, Trevor & Amber Alferink, and Nick Alferink; a precious great-grandson, Tate Alferink; his adored dog, Molly; his sister-in-law, Ruby Hickmott; life-long friends, Bud & Sandy Carter, Hank & Vi Viscuso, and Tom & Linda Coe; his daughter Kathy’s, best friend – and “favorite” daughter, Deb Davis; and many nieces and other friends.
Honoring Dales wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Rockford Community Cabin, 220 N. Monroe St..
