It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Dale Russell Lindsay, age 88, of Bellevue, Michigan. He peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family on August 12, 2026.
Dale was born on February 23, 1938, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Alvin and Vearl (Craven) Lindsay. He married his childhood sweetheart, Jewell Evans, on May 18, 1957. They shared 68 years of marriage and raised seven children. Dale was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to his life.
Dale attended Ainger Bible Church. He was a strong, quiet man who put his faith into practice by helping others without expecting anything in return.
In his younger years, Dale worked at Komark’s Gas Station and later for Oliver’s until the company moved overseas. He then worked for Aluminum Extrusion until it closed, and afterward for Gale Briggs Inc. before taking an early retirement in 1997 due to ill health. After a lengthy recovery, he returned to the work he loved most: gardening and caring for the farm.
As a child, Dale spent summers on his Grandparents’ farm, where he developed a lifelong love for farming. He could identify nearly any tree by its leaf. He learned how to graft trees and grow English Walnuts. He even taught himself beekeeping, including how to build hives and use a smoker to tend them. Right up to the end of his life, he was still gardening and raising chickens.
Dale loved his family and enjoyed having his farmhouse filled with his children and their friends, and later with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Jewell also opened their home to many foster children over the years. A favorite pastime for many of the children was looking at Grandpa’s bird book and trying to identify the birds visiting his feeders.
He was skilled with his hands and could do everything from engine repair to home remodeling and even building a new home. He taught himself masonry and built a large fieldstone fireplace in the living room and stoned the outside chimney of his farmhouse. Perhaps most memorable was the go-cart he brought home and fixed up. For an entire summer, the farm was filled with grandchildren eager for their turn to zip around the field on that go-cart.
Dale is survived by his children, Pauline (Gary) Brittain, Jeff (Katrina) Lindsay, Calvin (Laurie) Lindsay, Joan Lindsay, Michael Lindsay, and Leanna (Josh Zaluga); daughter-in-law Jenn Lindsay; sisters Neva Censke, Sarah Cole, and Verna (Chris) Meneguzzo; brothers-in-law Charlie (Dorothy) Evans and Buddy (Jackie) Evans; and sister-in-law Janie Evans.
Those who have gone before him include his parents; wife Jewell; son Russ Lindsay; son-in-law Rich Lindsay; great-granddaughter Nora Lindsay; brothers Edwin, Lyle, Howard, Duane, James and Arthur; sisters Eunice and Esther; brothers-in-law Wayne Covey, Bob Lambert, Carl Censke, Larry Cole, Billy Evans, and Jim Evans; and sisters-in-law Leah (Cantrell) Lindsay, Nan (McDaniels) Lindsay, Wilma (Fields) Lindsay, and Shirley (Feeney) Evans.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ainger Bible Church, 5484 Ainger Road, Olivet, Michigan.
