Clyde G. Sisson, age 92, of Greenville, passed away Saturday evening, April 16, 2011 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital, Greenville. The son of Charles & Ella Mae (Cooper) Sisson, he was born on July 31, 1918 in Kent County.
Clyde was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army and participated in the D-Day invasion, as well as the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home, on Oct. 12, 1946, in Greenville, he married Dollie Mae Hall and together they raised two children and enjoyed 62 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2009.
Clyde had worked at R.J. Tower Automotive as a press operator and hi-lo driver, retiring after 37 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and was an skilled woodworker.
Surviving are his two children, Robert C. Sisson, and Peg Spears, all of Greenville; six grandchildren, Carol & Dan Wingeier of Raleigh, North Carolina, Robin Hewitt of Jefferson City, Missouri, Michael Spears of Belding, Shannon Hewitt of Jefferson City, Missouri, Charlene Sisson, and Robert II & Kellie Sisson, all of Greenville; ten great grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, and Alex Wingeier , Robert, Megan, and Brandon Hewitt, Matthew and Joshua Hewitt, Adrianne and James Sisson; one great-great granddaughter, Allaina Hewiit; a sister-in-law, Doris Hall of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where military honors, rendered by the U.S. Army, will take place at 8:00 p.m. Honoring Clydes wishes, no formal services will be held and burial will take place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Friends of the Michigan Veterans Homes, P.O. Box 805, Grandville, MI 49468-0805. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
