Mrs. Cleo Emma Hemmingsen, age 85, of Half Moon Lake, Stanton, passed away Thursday morning, July 2, 2009 at The Laurels of Carson City. The daughter of Albert & Beatrice (Jeffrey) Hopkins, she was born on Dec. 24, 1923 in Sheridan. On Jan. 5, 1944, in Greenville, she married Arthur W. Hemmingsen.
A devoted wife and mother, Cleo had also worked outside the home and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Hemmingsen in 1995; a grandson, Ricky Hemmingsen in 2003; her daughter, Helene Irene Camp in 2008; a sister, Betty Lou Johnson; and a brother, Albert Hopkins, Jr.
Surviving are a son, Robert Hemmingsen of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren, Robert L. & Heather Hemmingsen of Belding, Rodney W. & Sherie Hemmingsen of Carson City, MaryJo Hemmingsen of Sidney, and David S. & Nancy Camp of Stanton; nine great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Also surviving are a sister, Shirley Ruth Nostrant of Remus; two brothers, Raymond Hopkins of Belding, and Floyd Hopkins of Sheridan; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where the family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2-3 p.m.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to either the South Sidney Cemetery Association or Camp Wah Wah Tay See. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Burial will take place privately at South Sidney Cemetery.
