Charley Eugene "Gene" Fare, age 64, formerly of Sheridan and Stanton area, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. The son of Charles F. & Dorothy G. (Thompson) Fare, he was born on June 1, 1948 in Sheridan. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the U.S. Army.
Gene spent most of his years in the construction trade, as the owner of Fare Construction and later as a building inspector. Following a car accident, he became a passionate advocate for those with traumatic brain injuries and also worked as a paralegal. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus in Stanton, was a Boy Scout leader, and had been a member of the Stanton Star Lodge F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lavon Fare and Albert Ray Fare; and a sister, Alberta Kay Tedham.
Surviving are his sons, Mark J. "John" & Jeri Fare of Brighton, and Steve & Heidi Fare of Winn; two grandchildren, Samantha Fare and Alexander Fare, both at home in Brighton; a brother, Gary & Pat Fare of Greenville; a sister, Joyce Thurber of Dallas, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Visitation is Saturday from 12-1 p.m. at Jesus Non-Denominational Church, 9206 Peck Road, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pastor Tommy Turner will officiate and burial will take place privately at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
