Cecil LeRoy Palmer, age 74, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, September 22, 2012 at his home under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice. The son of Harry & Vida (Atkinson) Palmer, he was born on Dec. 12, 1937 in Greenville. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany and retired from the former General Tire plant in Ionia. An trophy winning motorcyclist in both in hill climbing and flat track, Cecil also enjoyed hunting and horseback riding and could fix just about anything. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Wandalee (Blum) Palmer on Jan. 2, 2010; and a daughter, Valerie Palmer. Surviving are his children, William "Bill" Palmer of Gowen, Jerri Rentsman of Greenville, Buddy Palmer of Greenville, Marie (Larry) Horning of Belding, John Wood III of Sheridan, Shannon Palmer of Kalamazoo, Eric (Brenda) Wood of Ionia, and David Palmer of Greenville; two sisters, Maxine Forest of Greenville, and Marcia Smith of Baldwin; a brother, Harry (Dottie) Palmer of Gowen; the grandchildren that he raised, Ray Palmer of Ionia, Andrea Silos-Morales of Greenville, John Wood IV of Belding, Eric Wood II of Hesperia, and Leah Wood of Sheridan; many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his longtime friend, Duane Post of Belding.
