Carolyn Jean Sergent, age 82, of Greenville, passed away Monday afternoon, July 24, 2017 at her home under the loving care of her family and Heartland Hospice. The daughter of Floyd & Dorothy (Dafoe) Spencer, she was born on December 14, 1934 in Sandusky and was a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute and Spring Arbor College.
On December 14, 1957, in Port Huron, she married Neil Gordon Sergent and together they enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage and raised three children. For nearly 20 years, Carolyn was an educator with Port Huron Area Schools and in retirement continued to mentor young children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Lola Anderson. Surviving are her husband, Neil Sergent of Greenville; their children, Sheryl & Richard Simons of Leroy, Jeff Sergent of Marysville; and Bryan & Loretta Sergent of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Dave & Anna Spencer of Gladwin and Bob & Judy Spencer of San Antonio, Texas; siblings-in-law, Elaine Lamb of Holt, Faith & Terry VanTress of Tecumseh, Gale Sergent of Burton, and Nancy Hutt of Holt; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family is from 12-1 p.m.. on Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 204 W. Cass Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rev. Don Spachman, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Madelyn Thompson, chaplain with Heartland Hospice, will officiate and a luncheon will follow in the church hall.
