Mr. Carol Richard George Stedman, age 93, of Greenville, passed away late Thursday morning, March 23, 2006 at Metron of Greenville. The son of James & Jane (Withers) Stedman, he was born on July 18, 1912 in Marshfield, Ohio. George retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company in 1974, where he worked as a welder at both the Greenville and Belding plants for 42 years, in addition to farming. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and riding motorcycles and snowmobiles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years, Frances Adail (McDiarmid) Stedman on Sept. 25, 2005; a daughter, Eileen Lowrey; four sisters, Alice Lancaster, Irene Hysell, Mary Dishong, and Betty Stedman; and a brother, Raymond Stedman.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis & Robert Roger of Gowen; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Dean & Margaret Stedman of Langston, and Darrell Lee Stedman of Cedar Springs; a brother, Melvin Stedman; a sister, Audrey Dishong, both of Athens, Ohio; a son-in-law, James Lowrey of Curtis; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Simmons; ten grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2006 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding. Visitation is Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
