Carol Getts

Carol Marie Getts, age 78, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at her home under the loving care of her son and Heartland Hospice. The daughter of Arthur & Ruth (Wellman) Johnston, she was born on June 30, 1934 in Greenville. On her birthday in 1951 she married Vernon Leroy Getts, a veteran of World War II, and together they enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage, raised two children, and had attended the Gowen Bible Church. For many years Carol also helped her husband in his business, Vernons Fit-It Shop, in addition to operating Getts Adult Foster Care for over 20 years. She enjoyed painting and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Getts on June 8, 2011; a daughter, Madelyn Swarts; and a son-in-law, Bruce Swarts. Surviving are a son, Dennis Getts of Greenville; two grandchildren, Becky Swarts and Chris Swarts; a great granddaughter, Sierra, all of McBride; a brother, Gary Johnston of Arizona; and many siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation is Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at the Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Zachary Nyhuis of Gowen Bible Church will officiate, and burial will take place privately at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek.
