Bruce Hansen

Bruce Roger Hansen, age 86, of Sand Lake passed away Wednesday evening, February 3, 2010 at Metron of Greenville. The son of Ed & Carrie (Jorgensen) Hansen, he was born on February 28, 1923 in Grand Rapids. Bruce came to the Trufant area at the age of 6, where he was a member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Trufant and attended Trufant High School. On June 30, 1945 he married his best friend since the 9th grade, Arlene Rasmussen. They had a double wedding with Arlenes cousin, Fern and Bob McCrew at the home of Arlenes parents in Trufant. Together he and Arlene raised two sons and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Bruce served as Maple Valley Township Supervisor and on both the Maple Valley and Lakeview School Boards. In his younger years, he liked ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cutting wood, as well as playing cards with family and friends. Bruce loved the land and enjoyed being a farmer his entire life, living on the same farm for 64 years. Surviving are his loving wife, Arlene Hansen; two sons; Marcus & Carolyn Hansen, and Terry & Vicky Hansen; ten loving grandchildren, who meant so much to him, Nic Hansen and fiancee Mary Johnson of North Carolina, Lacy and Corey Hallman of Petoskey, Taylor Hansen at home, Todd Hansen of Trufant, Travis and Jen Hansen of South Carolina, Tonya and Adam Holcomb of Allendale and Trenton Hansen of Trufant ; two brothers-in-law, Milton & Bette Rasmussen of Ft. Pierce, Florida, and Vernon Rasmussen of Trufant; three nieces, one nephew, and many cousins. His family will miss him dearly but will cherish the memories they have of him. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family remembrance will be held later with Pastor Aaron I. Sorrels III officiating. Memorials contributions may be directed to either St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Trufant or Heartland Hospice.
